Basil, Times Three

My invoice from Franci, our herb grower, reads as follows this week:

Chocolate peppermint (Yay! Glad to have that back in the kitchen)

Green basil (For pairing with the last of the strawberries, for this months’ Ice Cream Club)

Red basil (I’m guessing this is a holy basil variety. Something new for us to play with)

Medium green basil (for… whaaat?)

Yes, we have THREE varieties of basil in the kitchen this week. Medium green is a bit pointier leaved, with darker stems, and tastes quite grassy, with a slight liquorice kick at the beginning. Same same, but different. I of course want to tell Progress to drop everything and make me a sampler of three different basil ice creams to try (still wondering if this purple red and dark-as-sin basil will make a pink ice cream), but sanity (and the sheer amount of of stuff we have to churn) prevails.
