Washington, DC: Sugar Magnolia

Sugar Magnolia is a tiny storefront which sells coffee, ice cream by the scoop, cookies and pre-made ice cream sandwiches. I took a posse of willing wedding friends along to sample the ice cream sandwiches, and we were so eager beaver we were there five minutes before the doors opened at noon. So we made faces through the glass until they let us in.

The flavours change relatively often, and the ice cream sandwich choices on the day we were there were: choc chip cookies with vanilla malt ice cream, peanut butter cookies with chocolate sorbet, hazelnut macarons with brown sugar ice cream, chocolate wafers with salted caramel ice cream. We tried all but the peanut butter cookie sandwich. They all tasted pretty good, although I think the chocolate wafer could have been more chocolatey. We also had great coffee, and tried tastes of their scoop ice cream. Bacon and Maple Syrup was lovely, and lemon star anise. I found the chocolate sorbet a bit grainy.

Lovely staff, cute shop, fun sandwiches.
